Romeo and Juliet Discussion 2: Fate and Destiny

Answer all or some of the following:

What do the words fate or destiny mean to you?

Do you believe the course of your life is predetermined, and that you follow a set path?

Do you believe that it is solely our choices that determine our path? A combination of the two?

Do you read your horoscope daily, or read about the qualities or characteristics of your astrological sign? Why or why not?

Relate the ideas you explore to Romeo and Juliet.

To me destiny means that something is meant to be. I don't believe that your life is predetermined. I also believe that true love is just a fantasy. If you miss out on someone you love, there will always be another one.

To me destiney is a combination between fate and choice and that the farther you stray from an origional goal the more you loose yourself. When this happens you can not and will not be successful

I beleive our choices determine our path. But I also think that some of the choices we make are determined by the 21st century version of destiny: genetics.

I believe destiny is all out of our own hands. Ther's no controlling what will occur and what is in store for each and every one of us. "We plan... God laughs." There is no choice in it. Did Romeo want to fall for Juliet? When Rosaline was his priority? Did the heavens cause it? I think not. Destiny is rash and sudden.

To me, fate means that its meant to be. I don't believe the course of life is predetermined. I believe that many factors can change the outcome of your life. Our choices definitely determine our path, but not completely. I read my horoscope occasionally.

To me, destiny and fate are pretty much the same thing. They mean when somethig is meant to be, it has to eventually happen.

I kind of believe the course of my life is predetermined. I believe that it is predetermined multiple ways...if that makes any sense...pretty much, I think it is predetermined, but leaves room for you to make decisions, and the path changes because of those decisions, like a GPS! It has a set route, but if you take a wrong turn then the path adjusts to fit that turn! =]

I do read my horoscope daily, but just for fun. I think they are interesting, and possibly correct, but I don't think about it too much.

I believe in love at first sight. It doesn't always happen, but anything can happen, why not love at first sight? I believe Romeo and Juliet are destined to be together, and also the story itself was destined to be written.

In my opinion, fate or destiny both mean future to me, or how things are going to turn out. I believe that the course of an individual's life is not pre-determined, but more of a pathway. I think that a person has millions of options in their lifetime, and whatever choices they make will determine how their life will unfold. I read my horoscope once in a while, just for fun. I don't believe that the stars will tell me how my day will go or my birth month- it's all about choices for me.

I don't read my horoscope ever, because I don't really believe that people have a certain fate. I think that every single choice you make in life, from the small ones you make everyday, to the biggest decisions of your life, affect how your life will turn out. I don't think that anything is predetermined.

I think life follows a predetermined path chosen by you. Every decision made by you changes a part of your life, which then affects your overall future and your "path". I believe that your destiny is affected only by your choices, as you are really the only person that can change the way you live. I don't like to read horoscopes or columns about my astrological sign because I think that the writer is talking to a general audience and it doesn't really apply to everybody. If predictions ever come true for me, I'll most likely think of it as a coincidence and not fate.

I believe in destiny to a certain extent, but I think that Romeo and Juliet meeting each other and their tragic death wasn't really caused by fate.

To me destiny is something that is special. Once you are destined to be with someone there is no going back. It is meant to be. Destiny is all fate. Destiny could also determine your path in life whether it is to be married to a certain person or to have a particular job.
